Luke Cage Season 2 To Feature Actual Puerto Ricans

Marvel and Netflix have announced their intentions to increase the budget of Luke Cage so that the second season may feature authentic Puerto Ricans in secondary character roles.

“We’re very excited that in this second go-around we get to have real Puerto Rican villains who will show up, be Puerto Rican and then probably get killed. Last time we had to use some Mexicans and a white guy, but this time we get to do so much more. Of course, all the Mexican guys that were playing Puerto Ricans were killed off, but that white dude still has a job for season 2,” Jeph Loeb was excited to announce. “Some fans really want us to introduce White Tiger, who is a Puerto Rican character in the comics, but we figured that we should save that character for when we’ve burned out our Netflix contract and just say we’re going to do something with her and never actually use her.”

It was surprising that in a show that was so heavily about race, Luke Cage featured mostly non-Puerto Ricans playing Puerto Rican characters, but with the incredible expense it really would have cost to import Puerto Ricans into Harlem or Spanish Harlem, we understood how they needed to keep those costs down.
